History Behind the first amendment
The first amendment was written, in a way, to defeat the United States' unpleasant past under the rule of Great Britain and King George the Third. The colonies' rights were scarce then, they had no freedom under the monarchy, and that was what led them to revolt for independence. Including what they had fought for in the Declaration was a must, thus the first amendment was made; to insure no american would ever live under that kind of suppression again. The first amendment was also written to secure a body of citizens that would not wish to revolt and break apart from their government in the first place. it was well known that there would be extreme divisions if a single religion was established and this could lead to even more chaos than the minor revolts that were occurring at them time. They knew they had to keep the people at a peace and in a state in which would not spark controversy, so the amendment supported that need efficiently for the time.
